6 Frying Pans

Do I really need 6 frying pans? I'm moving and packing up stuff and looking at each item or stack of items.
Frying pans....my mind wandered to my Grandmother who loved getting new frying pans. She'd phone my mom to get my dad to take her shopping, "Bill, ma wants to go to Rosso's to get a new frying pan." My dad would make that face and some moaning sounds. He'd take her to the hardware store in town owned by the Rosso brothers, Phil and Joe, handsome Italian batchelors with huge white smiles.
My dad, on the other hand, didn't like to get new frying pans, well really, nothing new. His frying pans were all burnt and warped out of shape from putting them on too high heat. He liked to cook with lots of bacon grease that he collected in counter top jars or soup cans. When I used to come and visit him in the winter, there would be frying pans lounging in the snow banks and would know that Daddy had been cooking.
Ah hell, I will just pack up all my frying pans. If I burn the bottom, a little washing soda and hot water overnight and it will be good as new in the morning.
Now I am going to fry up some eggs. I'm going to keep any eye on them!

Help

Weird, the comments Peace Seeker and tara made didn't show up here.
The first frying pan blog supposedly didn't go through and Gaia ate it. So I did 6 frying pans #2. After I posted it, I saw the first one showed up WITHOUT the picture, so I deleted it. So maybe that where your comments were - on the first one.
Maybe you can tell me - did you post on the one that DIDN'T HAVE A picture?
Just curious - Gaia been acting up lately.
I love this…I have about 6 myself…and when I make lasagna, I use all of them!!!
love you
TARA said, ”
squeal! 50's design in the kitchen, you are so my kind of girrrl Mimi
: )
PEACE SEEKER SAID, “Enjoy the eggs. You said that you are packing up six frying pans. I don't
even know how many I have. :-( I probably have far more than I need. Thanks
for inspiring me to think about letting go of stuff.
Thanks, giiiirls for visiting my blog spot. Oh, Aley, do you really use that many pans? I usually have to wash as I go 'cuz I have a micro-kitchen.
Hey Tara, I was soooooo lucky to be born in 1942 and be an teenager in the 50's. I love the stuff from the 50's everything - the furniture, the music, the colours, the dances, the old TV shows. You can see (in the picture) the plaster fruit from the 50's that I bought for my mom for Mothers Day. I am taking those with me to my new place.
Hey Peace, It is really good to really LOOK at all our stuff. I had 6 glass pie plates. I don't even bake pies, or worse yet - try to make a pie crust, though I did just pack my rolling pin. Hmmmmm, what am I thinking?
LOL this is funny, I think I have 3, one big, one medium and a small one… I use the small ones for eggs :))) and the big one for crepes… I love crepes with honey or with strawberry jam… mmmmm… so good… My Dad used to cook them for us, lots of them when we were kids and he was playing with them in the air… now I do it :))) Thank you Mimi for the memory… Love you Dad )))
Hey Asteri,
Lucky you to have a Dad who was a good cook. Crepes are hard to make, aren't they? They sound yummy. How nice that you carry on crepe making. You'll have to give me your recipe. I think somewhere I have a crepe maker I picked up at a thrift store. Just haven't tried it so far.
yes I did post on the one with no pic & now i'd like to see one of the colored
50's bowls you mentioned in your first blog ;-)I have a small kitchen too, so not much space for collecting stuff, but I love mixing vintage with new design. My toaster is from the 50's fx & still going strong, amazing! ..& more squeal to the 6 frying pans, you weren't kiddding! I have an instant crush on the orange one, ooh!
I had a whole set of those orange Le Creuset cast iron pots and pans that I bought for myself in the 70's, Over the years, I gave them away as they became too heavy for me to lift. And I bought myself some Lagostina and Paderno pots and pans. The Paderno's are made in Canada and are fabulous. The orange one in the picture I bought at our building's spring bazaar for $1.00 for 2 of them. I gave the other one away.
I'm going to gather my Pyrex bowls and take a photo just for you.
Sounds like the right amount of pans :-D
I have about 4…large, medium and the cutest little small one I make eggs in.
Are any of them aluminum? Get rid of those immediately! They're poisoning you. =)
BooHoo, why is everyone moving except me? I have plans to, just haven't found a Sanctuary worthy enough for me to grow in :-P
PS…OMG my dad collected the bacon grease too…it is fabulous for taking tar off the skin. (Tar? yah…on hot days, the tar would melt and we got it on us LOL)
Dare I say I have 15??!!! I used to be a cook, you know … can't get enough of those frying pans! I'd have every burner going if I could … I suppose that wouldn't be too ecofriendly though, huh?!
mimi, you're too sweet, getting a glimpse of 50's vintage in your world will indeed be a treat : ) YES to the Creuset, love it too, I did not know they make them in orange again.. what a bargain you made on the pans, the store prizes flips my wig.. & counting my stack, I actually have 5 pans when I include the wok, the sauté- & the crepe pan, and like you ariel, the cutest lil one that holds a single egg.. so much for keeping it simple tsk.
OMG Rachel…my mom has at least that many, she just refuses to throw them out, some are all rusty and gross, but she doesn't use them and won't deep 6 them either. Heh. :-P
I think I bought that little pan just because it was so cute. I have another little pot (I guess cooks would call it a sauce pot)…so far I haven't figured out what to use it for unless I want to boil half-a-cup of water LOL :-D
Whoops Tara…did woks count? :-P Make that 5 then :-D
Hey tara, check out my photos for my bowl collection. i just found a bunch more small glass ones (about 8) and packed them all
Daydreamer –15 pans is a LOT! Would love to stop by and see what you're cooking up in all those pans, pull up a chair at the kitchen table and……
Res, I forgot about the tiny red one that I use to fry one egg. Sounds like yours Res. I bought it cuz it was cute. I have 7 frying pans.
I went to a church bazaar yesterday and bought a wonderful brand new Paderno saucepan for 75 cents. The list price is $146.00!!!!
I like that red one.
