Thanks for sharing this list of the funniest words in the English language. I think I’ll distribute them to my ESL students.  Just when they thought they were beginning to get a handle on English…

Mimi, thanks these are great, if you want to find out some funnier and more unusual words I advise you to grab a copy of Reading the OED, an interesting and incredible and fun book,

There’s so many of them!  My faves are smellfungus, callipygian, and wabbit, but lots of them are great.  About #36, I think that if a word is about as long as its definition, it’s probably better to just go with the definition?  Thanks for the fun!

It is fun to see these words - I kept hearing doppleganger and schadenfreude on TV .
It would hurt my brain trying to figure out  from context what it meant.
Closest I could get for doppleganger was “imposter”.  So i”m glad I’ll know what it is next time I hear it.

Re formication, I knew it had something to do with ants.  When I worked in the garden and dug up an ants’ nest, they would send off a strong odor (we’re being attacked).  I found it they were producing formic acid.  I think formic acid has some medicinal use.  It has a very distinct sweet sickening swell.  More useless information - unless, of course, you are playing Trivial Pursuit!  I hope you get to use Formication  somewhere, Sandra ;>)
Thanks all for commenting and joining in the fun.

What a treat! This kind of thing makes my day … or, really, my week! I signed up for A Word A Day with the eloquent Anu Garg. But a list like this is like being a kid in a candy shop! Thanks for sharing!

Love you more ;>) Hope you have fun baking the brownies.  They will become a favourite for sure.  Put them in an 8” pan and don’t overbake.  But they are good even if they are over baked.  Can’t wait to see the photos!
