Do you try to love unconditionally?

Posted on Feb 1st, 2009 by mimi : MOONCHILD mimi
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 01, 2009:

Question_mark
Do you really really want to try?

Do you intend to make unconditional love an intellectual exercise or a way of life?

ME BEING INTELLECTUAL -- Perhaps you have to buy into the concept first, then try to do it through practice (I used Buddhist practice)  and then you have to FEEL unconditional love.  This might happen by being the giver or receiver.  Whether or not uncondtional love is even possible,  it probably makes everyone feel better if we at least try.

ME IN REALITY ---Practice, practice.  I failed miserably last night when I was out at the bingo. Back to the drawing board.   Right now, I am feeling unconditional love is an impossible task, and I should just  think about plain old love wherever I can find it or give it.  I am not up to to the task of unconditional love.  There's the ideal, and then there is just me now and today I am not interested in thinking about or giving UL.  I probably wouldn't even be a good receiver today.

Who or what would you have the hardest time loving?

Posted on Feb 7th, 2009 by mimi : MOONCHILD mimi
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 07, 2009:

Rompin' RONNIE HAWKINS  & The Hawks

I have a hard time loving people who are ignorant and mean.  This is a disastrous combination.

Through their ignorance of basic logic, ethics, spiritual awareness, their thought process is confused and they come up with illogical ideas about how things really are.
They see enemies everywhere, blame others and make themselves victims.
Then they might act in illogical, mean, cruel, unethical, criminal, violent ways.
We can feel their negative energy, and see their rage and their ugly actions.  Their hearts are hard.  They  might need a gun.  Yes, they need it in their own mind.

For sure, I  would feel compassion for this sorry soul and might  choose to act out of sense or ideal of love.  But for me, love is a two-way business.  It has to be felt not just thought about.  it has to flow between people.  Of course you can love yourself too but even that has to keep flowing-- out and through.  Who knows where it will land.....

Smarmy - a word used in the USA?

Posted on Feb 8th, 2009 by mimi : MOONCHILD mimi
Smarmy Smarmy_dude

• smarmy •

Printable Version Pronunciation: smah(r)-mi Hear it!

Part of Speech: Adjective

Meaning: 1. Slicked down, greasy, said especially of hair with too much tonic or oil on it. 2. Unctuous, oily, obsequious, ingratiatingly polite, perhaps with an overlay of feigned intelligence or sophistication.

Notes: Today's Good Word is one that has yet to make it to America. It is widely used in Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and other English-speaking countries but Americans never hear or use it. It may be compared: smarmier, smarmiest, and its root may be used as a qualitative noun, smarm, the quality that makes something smarmy. If you prefer something a bit longer, try smarminess for the noun. I'm sure you won't regret it.

In Play: Have you ever wanted a term that would help you avoid brown-nosing, a far too common expression in the US? Here is how you do it: "Mel Pew always puts on that smarmy charm of his when a customer comes by." Of course, smarminess could conjure up admiration, too: "I don't see how she does it but Celia Feight can pull out one of her smarmy sales pitches and sell ice cubes to an Eskimo."

Word History: Today's word is the adjective from the verb smarm "to slick down, to make smooth with an oily substance". No one has any idea where the verb came from though its meaning and spelling strongly suggest a kinship with smear. It probably originated in a dialectal pronunciation of this word or perhaps as a blend of smear and some other word, maybe balm. This is, however, only speculation. (Today we thank Jeremy Busch for suggesting words of mysterious origins that, equally mysteriously, have not penetrated the [more or less] United States.)

My friends and I (Canadian)  have used this word for years, probably from the 1960's.  How about you?  Have you used this word?

I found a Gianni Versace coat at the thrift shop

Posted on Feb 9th, 2009 by mimi : MOONCHILD mimi
Versace_coat
Here is a picture of a coat that is similar to the one I bought.  Mine is the same except it is full length!!   This picture is from e-bay and the bidding is up to $651. 00.

Today was 50% off everything at Value Village, so i got my gen-you-wine Versace for a measly $15.00.  It is missing a button on the front, and one on the right sleeve  -- one of those beautiful ones pictured here,  I think I might be short one authentic button, but i think I got a real deal for $15.00.
I also got another beautiful long  coat  with a soft hood, carmel suedey outside, and dark chocolate brown  soft fuzzy lining.  And this 2nd  one cost me  only $10.00.
WhooooooooooHooooooo!!

PS -- David Beckham was  shirt shopping in a  vintage stores in Toronto recently.  It is the new big thing to buy 2nd hand.  The clerk said Beckham  took his shirt off 4 times and didn't use a change room.  She was all rippley and melty.

I love thrift store shopping.  How about you?

Look at Love - Rumi poem

Valentine_heart
Look at Love.../Rumi

Look at Love...
how it tangles
with the one fallen in love

look at spirit
how it fuses with earth
giving it new life

why are you so busy
with this or that or good or bad
pay attention to how things blend

why talk about all
the known and the unknown
see how unknown merges into the known

why think separately
of this life and the next
when one is born from the last

look at your heart and tongue
one feels but deaf and dumb
the other speaks in words and signs

look at water and fire
earth and wind
enemies and friends all at once

the wolf and the lamb
the lion and the deer
far away yet together

look at the unity of this
spring and winter
manifested in the equinox

you too must mingle my friends
since the earth and the sky
are mingled just for you and me

be like sugarcane
sweet yet silent
don't get mixed up with bitter words

my beloved grows
right out of my own heart
how much more union can there be

What was the last hint you were given of your purpose?

Posted on Feb 11th, 2009 by mimi : MOONCHILD mimi
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for February 11, 2009:

Jesus_is_coming_look_busy
We all get hints.  We get a flash of insight, we get a tap on the shoulder, we get a kllump aside the head, we get a kick in the ass, we get hit  between the eyes with a 2 by 4!   the piano falls on our head, we get hit by the bus.  Then, in a magic moment of pure insight we finally wake up and everything changes;  we change for the better.

I remember many years ago, a friend gave me a T-shirt that said, "Jesus is coming, look busy".  I laughed so hard and --those words still make me giggle.

Somehow, a few years ago, my life purpose became absolutely clear - BE USEFUL.  That is my job on the Planet.  I used to think it was to find my Joy.  I have found peace and and happiness and sometimes Joy.  But it is "BE USEFUL" that guides me.  Most of it is very small scale, but there are many opportunities every single day to Be Useful

The Universe still taps me ightly - gives me Love Taps. I smile and go on.

PS - I just got this in today's e-mails and it is appropriate here:

"You must give some time to your fellow men. Even if it's a little thing, do something for others -- something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it.
~-- Albert Schweitzer

Love At First ... Smell

ScienceDaily (Apr. 2, 2005) — Why do some males smell better than others? Scientists at Cardiff University, in collaboration with colleagues at Max-Plank Society, Germany - and the help of stickleback fish - have identified the chemical responsible.

The researchers found in a study of sticklebacks, that males with body odour that is particularly attractive to females produce small protein fragments (known as "peptides").

To prove this, the researchers produced a synthetic "perfume" containing a mixture of protein fragments. By manipulating the combination of fragments in the perfume, the sexual attractiveness of males could be increased. In the experiment none of the females being tested could see the males. Even males previously rejected by females were rendered irresistible after the synthetic perfume had been applied.

Smell is important when choosing a partner, not only for humans but also fish. To fight disease, the body's Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) molecules identify a disease as a foreign invader. Different MHC molecules fight different diseases, so it's important to have a mix. Females use smell to identify partners with suitable MHC molecules: choosing only males with the correct mix of immune genes critical for the survival of future offspring.

In the experiment females were fooled by the protein fragments into believing that males with insufficient MHC molecules would provide offspring with the ideal number of MHC types. However, when the perfume was added to males that already had the ideal range of MHC molecules, females could also be fooled into believing that these males smelled repulsive: having too many immune genes for offspring.

Dr Siân Griffiths, Cardiff School of Biosciences said: "Since sticklebacks use the same molecules to communicate information about their immune system as other vertebrates, this experiment can be assumed to be important for many animals, including humans. Humans have used perfumes for thousands of years. However, it seems that our choice of perfume should depend on our MHC genes. Perhaps these results explain why some perfumes smell good on some people and terrible on others."

Professor Thomas Boehm, Max-Plank Society said: "The new results raise the question of whether humans can also gather information about MHC on the basis of peptides."
