Baby Doll Pyjamas 1950's

During maze and liza's visit, we talked about going to visit maze in Buffalo.
Maze had already told us that he had 5 bedrooms in his house.  So liza  laughingly said, "hey we could stay over at maze's house,  and I said, "yah, a sleepover and we'll have to wear our Baby Doll Pyjamas."

She looked at me kinda strange.  "Oh, they were popular in the 1950's.  Girls used to wear night gowns to bed.  Only men wore pyjamas! (the pants thing) " So baby doll pyjamas were a bit risque, like a reall short wide top and bloomer pants with some lace around the legs.  Whoo Hooo.!  (The top was like a maternity top)

I found very few entries  on Google but managed to find this image and description from a vintage shop.:

Sweet, innocent, and decidedly lightweight, these baby doll pajamas are 100% feminine through and through, and speak of those summer pajama parties of our youth when cool, comfortable jammies were a must to counter the effects of those hot, sultry nights. They're fashioned from breezy 100% cotton batiste to ensure they do just that, and are graced with lace for added style and appeal. The sleeveless top has a flounced hem and is accented with a satiny bow. The bloomer-style bottoms provide maximum modesty with lightweight coverage, and have an easy-fitting elastic waist and nonbinding elastic leg openings.

Heyyyyyyy….not only 1950's, but I wore those in the 70's when I came to the US of A.
I guess my mom brought them from Trinidad…but this is what we wore!
(most likely because Trinidad was probably selling 50's stuff as 70's stuff, LOL…they're so backwoods, LMAO)

Pssst…don't tell, but I cut those lacy elastic leg bands off…gosh how bothersome and itchy! :-D

Oh Res,
You naughty girl !!- cuttinging the elastic bands off.  Hussy!!
How could you maintain the necessary MODESTY, without the protection of the elastic bands??

I cut the elastic off all my nightwear for years, and cut off the scratchy lace too. And the scratchy tags, and let's not forget about the plastic thread that is used these days. Ouch, ouch, ooch!  Now I buy 100% tagless cotton stuff.

Ooooh…tagless clothing. One of the best contributions to this decade :-D

Did they still call these things pantaloons, or was that just us island people? :-D

I don't think anyone calls them anything these days because they don't exist.
My Dad said Pantaloons, my mother said “bloomers”

One of the most painful  “Pantaloon “memories —- being teased one winter when I was about 9 or 10. .  We got some hand-me-downs from an older cousin.  There was a pair of thick woollen leggings.  They were  dark brown, scratchy with wide legs with a cuff at the bottom.  My mother made we wear them even though I cried - they were ugly and chaffed my legs.
The first day out, walking to school, the boys spotted me in the pantaloon leggings, and started pointing , laughing hysterically, pushing me, and yelling, Pantaloochie, Pantaloochie, and called me that daily for months, –till they found a new victim..

Awwww…well, Mimi…we ALL have those stories.
Here, I'll share one of mine and we can laugh now…

My dad, for a short time (Thank God) had to dress me for school (I may have been 6-8 or something) and he insisted that panties go on OVER pantyhose (which as all women know, the pantyhose always start riding down at the ankles…which would pull the panties down along with it)…boy, was he insistent…and Daddy MUST be right (or else! LOL).

I got all sorts of creative torments…ahhhhh yessss…till they found a new victim.
(I thank God too, for the new girl who came to school smelling like pee…and I Never teased her or anyone else, as I knew how it felt)
