This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for November 08, 2008:
I love singing old fashion songs to my grandchildren. This one (I Bought Me a Cat) was Gracie's favourite this trip.

I love old tunes too….but I also love making my own lyrics up as we go along…the whackier the better…kids love being crazy.

I agree with making up wacky lyrics as you go along - the kids love it!
My Dad used to do that all the time, and as young kids, my sister and i would squeal when he did it. Every Xmas when I hear Walking in a Winter Wonderland,
I hear my Dad singing, “Walking in My Winter Underwear” That's how i sing it too now.
that's one of the songs we have to sing at the choir concert tomorrow night. Wish us luck! :)
Wow! that is so neat! Wish I could be there to hear you sing your version of it.
When I went to youtube, there were many versions of this - but I liked the choir sound. It was so pure and joyful.

I sang to my kids and grandkids from birth, and we still sing together. I try to teach them a new song or two from my large repetoire. However the computer age has taken over and we go to YOUTUBE now, and sing along. there. The last time, we learned some Johnny Cash songs - Hilarious - Gracie 2, and Samantha 4, singing “BURINING RING OF FIRE” and ” I WALK THE LINE”. We did a little concert for mom and dad when they came home.
Alex 8 loves the John Denver songs. When Alex was a crying baby, I put on County music and that would always calm him down. My friend put on Jazz and that calmed her baby. Singing is so good for our health and general well-being.
